• The well is about 275 metres away.

At Well:

• He was shocked because water is 46 metres below.
• There was neither rope nor bucket.
• He returns to bordj and searched his pack.
• Small metal teapot.
• He has no line(rope).
• Bits of cords and articles of clothing make only 8 metres.
• Tore the turban into four stripes.
• Teapot reached half down the well.

What else:

• Sleeping bag (No).
• Because nights were bitterly cold.
• Without blanket he would freeze to death.

On his sleeping bag:

• Picturing himself dying of thirst and hunger if the Professor did not arrive in the next day or two.
